Baked Malai Paneer / How to Make Baked Malai Paneer

Can you imagine a paneer dish with only handful of ingredients and yet so delicious and rich? Yes, there is one such dish- Baked Malai Paneer.

In Baked malai paneer,  paneer is cooked in a gravy made up of fresh cream or malai resulting into a rich and creamy dish. The generous use of coriander takes this dish to another level. I had learnt this dish in a cooking class, when I was doing my graduation. Since then, this is my favorite dish.

Since it makes generous use of malai, in spite of it being my favorite, I have reserved it for occasional purposes only. It’s not bad to indulge in the richness of this delicious creamy baked malai paneer once in a while. So let’s give a free rein to ourselves tonight and indulge in its deliciousness.

Instructions
  1. Grind onion, ginger and green chilies together to form a smooth paste. Keep aside.
  2. Cut paneer into cubes and make puree of tomatoes.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add onion paste and saute till rawness of onion has gone.
  4. Add tomato puree and cook till all the moisture has dried and it leaves oil.
  5. Add coriander powder, white pepper powder and garam masala. Saute for a minute.
  6. Add malai, coriander leaves and cubed paneer. Mix everything and take off the flame. If it appears too thick, add little milk. I added about ¼ cup of milk.
  7. Transfer the contents to a baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 200 C for 20 minute.
  8. Serve hot!
