September and October months are full of festivals that means lot of sweets. Sometimes we get bored of sweets, so I keep it a combination of traditional sweets and cakes. Kids can never get bored of cakes so it has become a routine for me to make one or the other cake for them or their friends.

This Dussehra, when I was to visit my brother for tikka, I baked some cakes and cookies for my nephews. When the last batch of cake (chocolate cake) was in the oven, all of a sudden there was a power failure. Though I baked the cake on my gas oven, yet shifting of cake from electric to gas oven resulted into sinking of cake from the middle. Instead of losing my heart (my younger nephew is very fond of chocolate cake and will be disappointed if there is no chocolate cake), I converted chocolate cake into a more chocolaty treat i.e chocolate cake balls.

chocolate cake balls

I make cake pops in a number of ways, but this time I wanted intense chocolate flavour. To get that dark chocolate taste, I used dark chocolate ganache that was already lying in my fridge. To make chocolate balls oozing with chocolate just like lava cake, I filled the centre of cake balls with chocolate ganache. Then rolled the balls in desiccated coconut to hide any leakage of chocolate from the balls.

When I gave box of cake balls to my nephew and he popped one into his mouth, he literally jumped with joy. He liked it so much that wasn’t ready to share it with anybody.
