Growing kids need lots of proteins. Mine is a dal eater family but my kids like to have either dal makhani or sambar. For rest of the pulses, though they don’t refuse to eat, but keep on grumbling “kuch aacha bna lete”. So to make them happy, I try to change the form of dal in one way or the other. They love to have any dal in the form of chillas/pan cake. This week in blogging marathon, I’m making crepes. Yesterday I made whole wheat crepe that my grandmother used to make. My today’s crepe is protein rich mixed dal crepe.

This crepe is special in itself because it is

  • Fat free
  • Flour less
  • Vegan
  • Gluten free
  • Proteinaceous.

In addition to all these features, it is so good in taste that no one can say no to these healthy crepes or chillas.

Instructions
  1. Wash and soak dals for at least 2 hours.

  2. Grind dal, chopped carrot, ginger and 2 green chillies together to form a smooth paste. Add water to make it a batter of putting consistency.

  3. Beat the dal paste well with a whisker or a hand mixer.

  4. Add finely chopped onion, coriander leaves, 2 green chillies, red chilli powder, salt and baking powder. Mix well.

  5. Heat a non stick dosa tawa on high heat.
  6. Once hot, reduce the heat to low or remove it from fire, pour ½ cup of batter and swirl to spread the batter as thin as possible.
  7. Increase the heat again to medium high and let it cook on one side till browned.

  8. Flip the side and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  9. Enjoy this proteinaceous crepe with spicy green chutney or tomato sauce.
