Koki Masala Roti/ Sindhi Koki Roti

Koki Masala Roti/ Sindhi Koki Roti

Koki roti….a Sindhi masaledar roti is not just a roti, but an amalgamation of different flavours and  lies somewhere between a roti, paratha or a crisp biscuit.

Since I’m running a mega marathon under the theme A to Z Indian Flatbreads, for other letters I had to think about a flatbread that I’ll be making. But for letter K, I was determined from the beginning that I’ll be making koki roti only.

Koki masala roti

The reason of my being so decisive about koki roti was, this roti being almost similar to my family favourite onion paratha with only minor differences like, koki roti is made using lots of desi ghee, is thick and crispier whereas onion paratha is a soft paratha. So this koki roti is made occasionally for a special treat whereas onion paratha is regular at my home when I’m not in a mood to make stuffed paratha.

I served this roti with some fried papads, pickle, butter and mango shake.

  1. Masala Koki is a regular feature at home , it’s normally made for breakfast . You have made a perfect Koki with perfect spices and herbs , roasted it to perfection . Serving it with so many accompaniments must have been a treat .

  2. Love all the flavours and spices in that masala koki. Besan and wheat flour sound like a good combination. I should try it soon…and your pictures are so inviting and tempting!

  3. We used to make a simple variation of koki. With the huge amount of ghee added, it used to be a delicious treat. I love your version of spices and herbs and onions. They look fantastic Ritu..

  4. Wow! I love crispy rotis whereas my family loves softer ones. So this roti is made for me and also one of the reasons why I didn’t get to it 🙂 This one gets into my to-do list and off again – repetitive cycle 🙁

  5. This sindhi roti looks delicious and I can finish it with simple curd. I was also thinking to make this or khoba roti. But anyway decided for onion paratha for o so didnt make it. kind of similar. But definitely in my list for next time.

  6. I love onion paratha and I love how there are so many variations of them across the Indian cuisine! I am definitely going to try this one. And since you are at the marathon, I can suggest you try the Rajasthani Tikkad for the letter T. It is very similar to the Koki roti you just shared but it is made entirely with gram flour.

  7. This is a flavorful roti.. I tried a similar type of roti without the addition of besan flour. It’s a delicious and quick recipe. Great explanation and lovely capture. 🙂

  8. Heard a lot about Koki Roti, but never tried . Looks stunning. Sounds so flavourful .. wheat and besan deadly combo and addition of spices and onion is amazing. Loved the recipe. Thanks for sharing

  9. I just couldn’t stop staring at the colorful dough..makes the koki so tempting. Will have to try out this koki recipe. If it were not for the Mega BM I would probably not have made flatbreads with onions and realized how tasty they are.

  10. Oh wow your kokis have turned out so sinful! I seriously won’t mind to have these right now!..I remember I made these too and loved it to the core! wonderful choice.
