Masala cookies as the name implies are mildly sweet and spicy cookies with the addition of various Indian herbs. Addition of various herbs make the cookies quite flavorsome and these make a tasty accompaniment to the tea.

Masala Cookie Ingredients

Maida 250 grams
Powdered sugar 100 grams
Butter 150 grams
Baking powder
1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Cumin seeds
1 tsp
Carom seeds ½ tsp
Garam masala
1 tsp
Ginger 1 tsp, grated
Green chillies 2-3, finely chopped
Mint leaves, coriander leaves, curry leavesfew sprigs, finely chopped


Sift together all purpose flour, baking powder and salt. Keep aside.

Grate ginger and finely chop all the herbs. Keep aside.

Cream butter till light and smooth.

Add sugar and cream again till light and fluffy.

Add flour mix, chopped herbs and spices to the creamed butter and make a firm dough.

Keep the dough in fridge for 20 minutes.

Roll the dough into a 2 mm thick sheet.

Cut the rolled dough into desired shape using cookie cutter.

Arrange on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 160 C for 25 minutes until light golden brown.

Remove from oven and allow them to cool completely.

Store in airtight container.
