Pudina Paratha /Minty Mint Paratha

Pudina paratha or mint paratha is a mint flavoured Indian flatbread.

We are no strangers when it comes to benefits of mint. We all know that mint is digestive in nature, treats nausea, stomach ache, headache, depression etc. It is a breath freshener as well. Because of its refreshing property, we use it in a number of culinary preparations like chutney, raita, salads, drinks, ice creams etc. That is the reason for letter P, my obvious choice was Pudina Paratha under Indian flatbreads.

I make Pudina Paratha in two ways – by adding chopped mint leaves or by adding a paste of mint leaves in the dough. Either way, it is delicious and quite flavoursome. When I’m short of mint leaves, I add it in the form of paste as grinding releases more aroma and when mint leaves are in plenty, then I add chopped mint leaves. Same way, sometimes I make it in the form of lachha paratha, when indulgence is my motto and when making in routine days, I make a simple paratha.

  1. Make a coarse paste of mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chillies and ginger in a mixie.
  2. Take wheat flour in a bowl. Add salt, spices and mint paste to it.

  3. Knead a smooth dough by adding water gradually.
  4. Apply 1 tsp of oil and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  5. Pinch out some dough and make a ball. Roll the ball into a big disc. Apply butter all over the surface and dust some dry flour.

  6. Fold it in the forms of pleats and then turn in a circular manner like in a swiss roll. Roll with light hands into a big circular disc .

  7. Transfer it to your griddle and cook on both sides by applying ghee or oil

  8. Apply more ghee or butter and crush before serving. Crushing helps to open the layers.

  1. I love mint and can add to any paratha . Normally I just use the torn or chopped mint leaves , but I like the idea of making a paste and adding to the flour . It would taste so so good !

  2. Like the dark greenish colour of the paratha. A good tip to add the mint paste to the dough. I’d not made mint parathas till I did this Mega BM. It tastes so delicious and refreshing.
