Rainy season is about to start and with that begins demands for pakoras or kheer pooda. My kids love to have besan ka chilla but mom and dad like meetha pooda. To make everybody happy, I make both and it becomes a family favourite breakfast.

Meetha pooda is a sweet pancake which is made from very simple ingredients present in every Indian kitchen i.e. Whole wheat flour, fennel seeds and sugar or jaggery.

Unlike American pancake, Punjabi meetha pooda has a thin batter and is spread like a dosa. It uses a minimal amount of oil, so can be consumed  guilt free.

Traditionally, it is served with kheer (rice Pudding) during Saawan month but can be enjoyed any time, as a breakfast or as a dessert. We like to eat it with mango pickle. So it is up to you….how and when you want to have it.

  1. This recipe brings back sweet memories, my mum would always make besan chila and sweet wheat puda together. However she would add sugar instead of jaggery. I love the colour of the pooda you’ve made, must try it with jaggery.
