Yogurt Roti/ Soft & Spicy Yogurt Roti/ Dahi Wali Roti

Yogurt roti is a soft, spicy and easily digestible roti which is made from pre cooked dough.

My today’s letter for me marathon being ‘Y’, I wanted to have some Flatbreads starting with Y. Only adjectives like yummy, yellow, yummilicious etc were coming to my mind. I had made up my mind to make yellow moong dal paratha. All of a sudden word yogurt came to mind and I thought of making naan. But I had already posted two naans in this marathon only, so didn’t like the idea of posting another one. But my mind was still stuck up at yogurt andI tried to search if any Indian flatbread with yogurt is there and I could find it here.

Since I have never used pre cooked dough, so was a bit skeptical to that, still decided to go ahead with that.

When I made rotis with it, believe me these were mind blowing, so soft…I can’t even explain it and the dough was so manageable, we can easily roll paper thin chapatis. I served these rotis with moong masoor dal and bharwa bhindi. All in the family liked it so much that had almost double the quantity, still there wasn’t any feeling of heaviness.

So don’t hesitate and quickly try this Yogurt Roti. I assure you, you will love making them and eating them too 😊

  1. In a bowl take yogurt, water, oil, salt, cumin seeds, chopped coriander and green chillies. Whisk it well to get a smooth mixture.
  2. Transfer this mixture to a non stick pan and give it a boil while stirring constantly.
  3. As soon as it starts boiling, add wheat flour in the centre of the pan and stir continuously to prevent lump formation. Cook it for 5-6 minutes on low flame. Take off the flame and allow it to cool slightly.
  4. When you are able to handle it, knead it thoroughly for 4-5 minutes till you get a smooth and soft dough.
  5. Pinch out a ball of dough as much as you take to make a chapati, shape it in a ball.
  6. Roll the ball into a thin chapati by dusting with flour, if needed.
  7. Transfer to a hot griddle and cook on both sides till golden spots appear. Smear some ghee or oil.
  8. Serve with any dal or curry of your choice. I served with moong masoor dal and bharwa bhindi.

  1. Thats brilliant to pick Yogurt roti for Y. How gorgeous and pretty those rotis looks. Lovely plating there. With all those adjectives, yet you have made beautiful rotis with yogurt and love the spices went in it.

  2. Cooking the flour in yogurt is interesting and I am sure the rotis were super soft. This sounds similar to janta roti except the flour is cooked in milk but a fantastic recipe. Thanks for the idea.

  3. Excellent pick , the procedure to make these is close to the procedure of Pathiri , where rice flour is cooked and rolled .
Cooking wheat flour in yogurt with spices would give a wonderful flavour and texture to these rotis . Will try these soon , since can’t get them from the screen .

  4. In this BM I got to know many precooked dough rotis. I am determined to try them soon. This time could not manage to many any. Adding yogurt makes soft rotis but with preccoed dough even more softer side. loved this presentation. So homely and loving.
