What do say about masala peanuts… Oh so addictive and hard to resist. You just pop one into your mouth and I can bet you can’t resist to finish the whole pack.

And then comes the worry… Consumed so many calories 😱.

What if, I omit that worry of yours. Yes, you can consume those masala peanuts guilt free as I’m going to tell you how to make them without the use of any oil.

Now what are you thinking? Who will do the laborious task of coating each and every peanut with masala and then frying it. Don’t worry, you need not to do it like that. You don’t even need to stand in front of burner to become sweaty.

Switch on your fan or A.C., mix masala with peanuts…just wait ten minutes for peanuts to soak in flavors, stir in besan mixture and throw it in microwave…..ta-dah, your masala peanuts are ready within 4 minutes. No toiling and moiling in this sticky weather and crunchy munchy masala peanuts are ready to munch on, that too without any added oil.

Zero Oil Masala Peanuts
  1. Mix besan, rice flour and corn flour. Keep aside.
  2. In a bowl, take all the spices. Add 2-3 tbsp of water. Mix to form a paste.
  3. Add peanuts and mix to coat peanuts with masala. Keep it aside for 10 minutes to absorb the flavours.
  4. Add besan mixture to the peanuts one tablespoon at a time and keep on mixing well so as to coat all the peanuts with besan. Sprinkle some water in between. I didn't add any oil in this. If you like you may add 1-2 tsp of oil at this stage. It will definitely enhance the taste.
  5. Transfer the coated peanuts to a microwave safe plate. Place the peanuts in a single layer and if possible, separated from each other.
  6. Microwave at high for 2 minutes.
  7. Take out the peanuts and stir them, separate the joined peanuts. Put them back in microwave for 1 minute.
  8. Again stir and subsequently microwave for another 30 sec to 1 minute.
  9. Allow them to cool down to become crunchier.
  10. Masala peanuts are ready. Enjoy them guilt-free.
Recipe Notes
  • Add water little by little, not at one go. Water is required to just bind the flours.
  • You can add 1-2 tsp of oil to enhance the taste.
  • You can even deep fry peanuts
  • Microwave settings are different for different microwaves, so just keep an eye on the peanuts after 3 minutes. They may take more or less time to roast depending upon your microwave power settings.
